Mathieu Da Costa Challenge

The annual Mathieu Da Costa Challenge of the Department of Canadian Heritage is a fun way for young people to learn more about Canada’s rich cultural diversity. The contest invites young Canadians between the ages of 9 and 18 to submit a piece of creative writing (e.g. short story, poem, etc.) or artwork celebrating the contributions made by Canadians of Aboriginal, African or other ethnocultural backgrounds to the building of Canada.

The Haunted Library

So I might have made Laura scream more than the people participating, but all in all, the Haunted Library was a blast! We had 8 people out (two guys that I think were too scared? because they left!).

Next Thursday, the 25th, is our TAB meeting as you might already know.

The TAB is a group of teens that meet once a month to discuss ideas for events (like the Haunted Library) and that help promote the library to their friends. It's at 6:30 and we usually have free food, so please stop by and check it out!

Henna!

Hey! Did you know that tonight at the Wellington library we'll be holding a henna night for teens?

Henna is a plant that is made into a paste and then applied to the skin to create beautiful, funky, original body art. It is used in celebration and ceremony in India and Africa and it lasts about two weeks.

HEY! Guess what? Tomorrow is TAB night.
What does that mean?

hmmm.. let me tell you all about it! I'm glad you asked.

TAB stands for "Teen Advisory Board", and it's a way for teens to get involved with the library and give us a hand in creating programs, events, and displays that are interesting. We have food at every meeting, and I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun! So stop by, get involved, and have some fun!

WHEN: Thursday, July 21 @ 6:30 p.m.
WHERE: Wellington Branch Library - Main Street Wellington. You know where it is!
WHY: Because it's fun? duh?

Fun tournament!

hello everyone!
Well, I don't know about you but I had fun last night at the Halo 2 tournament! There was a good turn out (15!) and we even got interviewed by the Wellington times.

The next thing that is coming up is the TAB meeting, which takes place July 21 at 6:30. It is a chance for teens to come into the library and share their opinions about what the library is doing for teens. We usually have some food and all are welcome! If you know you're coming leave a comment or e-mail me at liz@peclibrary.org so I can make sure there is enough food for you.

Today at 5 p.m. we will be hosting the first - ever teen program at Wellington Branch!

We'll be playing Halo 2 in a fun tournament against our friends. It should be good!
